Hello, faithful donors to the CTK Blessing!

Normally we reach out to share with you WHAT has been happening, HOW God is using the collective generosity of the people of CTK to bless our local community. But this time I wanted to make sure that we share a clear understanding of the WHY. Why do we have a dedicated fund and a staff team focused on serving the community around us? Why do we partner with nonprofit organizations around Whatcom County? Why do we share food with over 30 food banks and meal programs? Why is this the work of God’s church?

So often our view of the good news shrinks down to being just about our own relationship with Jesus, our own eternity secure. Or maybe we see and even share how Jesus’ victory over sin and death is good news for someone else–a family member, a co-worker, a friend. But we forget to lift up and out of our busy lives so we are able to see that God is at work in every corner of our world, in every layer of society, in every aspect of humanity.  Jesus’ resurrection brought the promise of new life for all of creation!  When we pray Father your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we don’t realize we are the channels through which His answers flow. We have the Spirit of God living within us, bringing the very same power that raised Jesus from the dead into every room, every interaction, every context we enter.  As the people of God, we form one body fit for every good thing God wants to make happen here on earth.  I like the way N. T. Wright said it in his new book:

“Our lives, individually and corporately, should mirror sacrifice and service, as that is the best way to demonstrate what the kingdom of God will look like someday in all its fullness.”

This past winter we were praying, seeking God’s yeses and nos as he outlines—for our particular part of the body—how he intends to move through us to set wrong things right.

We long to be the people described in Isaiah 58 who will raise up the age-old foundations, rebuild the broken down walls and restore homes.

I encourage you to read that chapter again and prayerfully consider what part God is asking you to play this summer in His plans to make all things new!

May we demonstrate Christ’s selfless love through practical service in such a way that our community sees our Savior in us and wants to know more. Have your way in us, Lord!  We give ourselves and our summer to you and to your purposes in Whatcom County!

Anticipating and building the Kingdom with you,
