Who is Dementia Support Northwest?

Dementia Support Northwest (DSNW) works to support people with dementia and their caregivers, families, and friends, through education and working with community partners to expand resources. Support takes on a variety of forms at DSNW, including:

  • Support groups for caregivers serving those affected by dementia

  • Staying Connected Memory Support groups for adults recently diagnosed

  • Dementia-Friendly events

  • Project Lifesaver to help locate those who wander (a partnering with Whatcom County Search and Rescue)

  • Daytime Social Respite Programs to provide reliable, scheduled respite for those caring for a friend or family member living with dementia. (Programs coming March 2023 to Bellingham and Lynden communities)

DSNW’s Impact

God has used DSNW to help me journey into a world that has its own vocabulary, ways of behaving, emotions most people never experience.  DSNW guidance and encouragement through the pain, the loss and the long good-byes of dementia has meant so much. I am so grateful for the group I meet with almost weekly.  They know what I am saying and feeling when I flounder. When I  don’t understand what is going on. Most of the leadership has gone through the painful, draining experience of caregiving loved-ones, and they want to help others get through this valley too. Their work matters because what they are doing and living, you cannot get from books, YouTube videos and the opinions of friends and family.  They get it because they have lived it.  - Mike
